don't miss olivia newton john!

Remember how I told you that my brother George made off with an awesome console mid-century modern stereo? Here it is in all its glory. I was thinking he should have to knock the worth of this off his inheritance, then I met someone who owns a vintage furnishings store. She tells me that it's probably worth about 50 dollars or something. I'll have to do a search on eBay.

So, it's gorgeous. We all are in our own way. But do we work? This beauty does. Look at that analog AM/FM radio. I remember so well how those call numbers light up when you turn the radio on. It always took a minute for it to warm up--like an old TV. Think it still does?

The turntable isn't working anymore, but this here is a mechanical device. I bet my friend Isaac could fix it in about five minutes with a rubber band, a screwdriver, and some chewing gum. I had to include the picture because I think that's my Xanadu record to the right of the turntable. That, George, you definitely owe me.

You are correct; the turn table does not work, and the radio does take a couple of minutes to warm up. Your friend is also correct in saying that the stereo is only worth about $50. I have looked on eBay and, first there aren't many to be found, and secondly, the ones there are not a valued prize. I don't leave it on for too long because it heats up and I don't want to start a fire. What good eyes you have to recognize the Xanadu album, but I disagree and claim it as mine; it was one of my favorite movies. I do have the Queen album too, and that one I think is yours.

1. As far as I can tell, it's Olivia Newton John who's missing things these days. A case of "dingo ate my baby" if there ever was one.

2. Nicholson Baker in his dirty book The Fermata has a character refer to "foyerism," that is, the desire to look into people's living spaces, not as voyeurs, but to check out the decor.

3. Are you missing a hair pin?

1. Watch it--she's my (fallen) idol.
2. Yeah and now all people can come up with is shelter porn.
3. Maybe.

More on the stereo. I pulled out the turntable which isn't working, just like me. (I'm finally getting to all those "projects" I've been putting off; one of them being fixing this turntbale). There is a manufactered date on the underside, June 28th 1963. Isn't it odd that after ALL these years of that thing not working, I pick today JUNE 28th to open it? I'm going to Google June 28 1963 to see if anything significant happened on that date 43 years ago.
